GASTRONOMY

Strong, noble, tasty: that is how experts classify Laviana cuisine Laviana. Even though many of the dishes are from other parts of Asturias, in particular two of them can be considered typical and from Laviana.

Kid with small potatoes

Probably the most famous (to the point in which there is a gastronomic festival in its honor) whether it be the "cabritu con patatos" o "cabritu con patatinos", being the two names used to refer to it. It is pretigious because of the quality of the raw material and the wisdom of its elaboration.

The gastronomic festival, which is celebrated in March, can be the perfect excuse to get to know the excelence of this council, and at the same time enjoy an outstanding menu, offered by its many restaurants.

The above mentioned gastronomic festival is not by all means the only one, as in autumn we celebrate the gastronomic festival "La Aldea Perdida".

Its pretigious Village pastry shop: bartolos (a typical sweet from Laviana), casadielles, cakes and easter cakes go beyond the local area, sought by people from other places around Asturias and Spain.

Besides its dish of kid and bartolos, worth mentioning, amongst other dishes are, pote asturiano, fabada, menestra, meat and cold meat, and also honey from the high areas.

Very traditional are the espichas, which in the area have in their origin a very deep rooted custom; and which consists in the sale of cider from the harvests which are from the previous year. Today, regulated by the town hall, the cider is served with small appetizers such as typical red sausage called "chorizo", omelette, hard boiled eggs, ham and the popular councillors, name which is curiously used to name pieces of fried batter coated cod.
