Les foces del Raigusu (I)The river Raigusu begins at the stream called los Infiernos, it receives from the right water from the stream
la Braña, from los Collaos, and from the left of "regueru´l Tozu l´Osu", the river L´Acebalín (river Forno and the Cuadrazu stream),
the river´l Gallu and the river los Tornos. In Mestres its water mixes with that of the river Mosquil (Cañaines y Daón), forming the river Ribota. Tanto en
the main river as in its tributaries you will find various gorges. El nombre de "Foces del Raigusu" is usually applied commonly
to the group of gorges which exist in this incomparable place in the surroundings of Mea.
In reality only the goirge of Covellayo is found in the river Raiguso, the rest are in its tributary and in the river Cañaínes: La Foz de L´Apretón, in
the river Forno, La Foz de Sogrande or Foz del Texíu (between El Picu Corvellusu and El Peñón del Texíu) and the Foz de Entrepeñes (en las guías,
"riachuelo Foces del Mosquil"), in the river Cañaínes.
Without a doubt the most spectacular is the gorge, the deepest and narrowest, which the river Cañaínes formed from its gorgeto the Requexá and the Mosquil
(in the surroundings of the village of Fomermeya) with its waterfall in the form of a pony tail: El Pingón de la Requexá.
One of the most direct entrances is from the village of L´Acebal, place in the parish of San Martín de Llorio. This village is situated
on a slight slope, on the right margin of the river Raigusu or of Ribota; it is at an altitude of 400 m, and distance of 5 km, from Laviana; you access it
along the LV-5 road, which exits the AS-17 in El Puente de Arco. It is a traditional agricultural and farming village, This is demonstrated in
the presence of nine raised granaries of which only two are still in use, a fulling mill, found in el Castro del marqués de la Ensenada ("Uno Enttermino detaraña,
which worked with the water from the stream of the Raigoso, eight months a year. Espropío de Gutierre Fernández. Nowadays it produces eighty reals a year"), it is still
well conserved, the Taraña mill.
The route begins along a path which appears once you pass the village, (path for all types of vehicles), which takes us
over the por Tiraña bridge, (hamlet which is situated, at 380 m altitude, in a flat area on the banks of the river Raigusu. The house was
built on a mill with two grind stones and which was in use until 1967; up stream there are still ruins of the mill of Pelusa,
of veceros de L´Acebal, Grandiella and La Pumará, it was inhabited until the 60s. In its surroundings there were coal mines owned by
Fradera cements: The mines of Taraña and Riascusa).
This the place where we find a path which is of a short distance, which comes from Ribota. We continue along the smooth path surrounded by
trees and which runs parallel to the Ribota river which leads us to the village of la Fomermeya. Before you arrive at that place, Les Mestres, the path divides,
the path on the left takes us to the village of la Fomermeya from where you can observe the gorges with the same name.
